Happy Birthday Lady B

I woke up this morning blinded by the sun streaming in through my balcony doors. I was suddenly greeted by the mother of all headaches, last nights outfit lay on the ground beside my bed. I get up and slip on a mens singlet, I’m parched and my calfs burn from a massive night of dancing.

I walk downstairs, no one else is awake. While I wait for the kettle to boil I count four sticks of lipstick, three empty Elle champagne bottles, two battered limes and one empty 1 litre bottle of Absolut.

I put a few heaps of instant coffee in a mug and reach into the bottom of the fridge for a carton of milk. I pour the liquid into my cup…it’s thick and grainy. I consider throwing the whole coffee out. My brain pounds against the inside of my head. Fuck it.

I sit on the ledge facing the backyard and sip the highly caffeinated drink. I notice two bruises on my legs and a massive blister on my left heel. I hear a mans voice and the sound of footsteps. With one swift movement I untie my hair and let it fall around my face.

I turn to greet a complete stranger.

Rewind 12 hours...

Happy 25th Birthday Lady B xx

I Saw You At Kawa And I Think You're Cute

Well, It's that time again...breakfast time! After a slight delay here is the next instalment of The Surry Hills Breakfast Club

Introducing...

Kawa Cafe is located at 348 Crown Street, Surry Hills (across the road from The Winery, Thomas Dux and adjacent to the massive slightly haunted looking Crown Street School) Still not sure? It's the cafe with the mismatched tables and chairs out the front, with mismatched hipsters and their pets to match or not match. Ohhhh that cafe!

Well Lady B and I decided to head to Kawa for breakfast on the eve of her 25th birthday to fuel our bodies for a day of shopping and eye brow waxing. When we arrived at Kawa all of the tables were taken (typical of this popular Surry Hills hub which is always buzzing with people). We stalked around the corner until we spotted a young couple abandoning their table and their breakfast by the looks of it...

It's never a good sign to see barely touched plates of food but we decided that it would only be fair to make our own judgement. I'll tell you what, Kawa's menu is pretty impressive in terms of variety. If you're a health nut like me you'll love it. Kawa also caters for vegans which is a bonus.

I ordered the organic omelette served with garden salad (you get a choice of one, two or three fillings) I chose bacon and spinach which came to $15.60. Not bad, but it used to be cheaper! Because I'm trying to be a good paleo girl I asked for the omelette sans dairy...you'd be surprised how many places put loads of cream into their omelettes to give them the perfect consistency.

Lady B ordered the Vegan Big Breakfast which I'd have to say is Kawa Cafe's signature dish at $16.50.

On the beverage side of things Kawa Cafe has an excellent selection of fresh juices. I frequently stop by on my way home from Bondi and pick up a large take away juice. It may seem a little steep at $9 but the large size is absolutely massive and I usually end up keeping what I can't drink in the fridge for later. I love how you can also watch them make the juice so you know that they aren't putting in any pre-made sugary shit. Delicious and nutritious.

Lady B ordered a soy mocha...which I find hilarious.

When the food came out I'll admit that it wasn't the most impressive looking omelette I'd ever seen in Surry Hills but it looked fresh and reasonably large.

Lady B's big vegan breaky was vibrant in colour and had a great selection of yummy breakfast goodies - I immediately had food envy.

Look, my omelette was bland as was the side salad. I've actually had the omelette with the dairy before and it wasn't much better. Inside the egg encased dish was a little bit of bacon that looked more like regular ham than crispy bacon. Lady B's dish was slightly better with absolutely delicious, sweet pumpkin, tasty home made bean and fresh avo but the mushrooms and cold toast were mediocre at best. On the bright side we still managed to do a lot better at finishing our meals than the people before us (funny that).

Since living in Surry Hill's I've been to Kawa Cafe approximately five times. Is it the food that keeps me coming back? No, not really. The food may not be the best part of the Kawa experience but the atmosphere is awesome. If you love to people watch Kawa really is the place for you. From this cluster of contrasting tables and chairs you will witness Surry Hills at its best. The wait staff here are friendly and accommodating despite the highly level of bullshit they probably have to deal with on a daily basis e.g. health freaks who ask for no dairy in their omelettes - annoying. The coffee isn't bad but with a massive variety of drinks you'll probably find yourself steering away from your regular order unless you're like Lady B who needs her morning mocha to function like a normal human being.

By 11am the place clears out and it's probably time for us to also be on our way. Thanks Kawa Cafe for providing us with another fantastic perve sesh.

After breakfast we headed to David Jones on Elizabeth Street. I couldn't not take a photo of DJ's breath taking Spring flower display and Lady B couldn't not take a glimpse at the Michael Kors eye wear range.

From there we crossed over into Myer so that Lady B could get her brows done and have a quick sniff through the perfume department.

Benefit Brow Bar is a great place to go to maintain the perfect arch. They are now in over 12 Myer stores across Australia. You don't need an appointment, you just rock up and put your name down. And depending on the day there is little to no wait.

After Lady B has the absolute shit waxed out of her face we decided to sooth the burn with a little lingerie shopping...lucky TM ;)

As a momento for a fun day of shopping we got snapped in the Dior photo booth...and took home a sample of Dior's newest fragrance "Dior Addict". It was as sweet and indulgent as our girls day out, its  always a pleasure hanging out with you Lady B xx

Photos up on the blog soon from Lady B's Birthday ;) oh wasn't that a wild one.

Love Games

10 minutes ago I deleted all of the social media apps on my phone and since then I have been sitting on my bed staring into nowhere. Every now and then I'll go to grab my phone but I stop myself before I can press my thumb down on that big round button and swipe myself back into the game.

Because it is a game isn't it? For me its a test of patience and I'll tell you now I'm not a patient person.

Let me put this whole love game thing in context for you...

If you're waiting for a guy you like to take his turn in the game (contact you first) you're essentially waiting for him to make his move across one of many platforms. He could:

A) Text you
B) Call you
C) Facebook you
D) Comment on one of your photos on Instagram
E) Tweet you
F) Snap Chat you
G) WhatsApp you

and as you know the alphabet continues and so does this list of possible moves.

If you're like me and don't like to put all of your eggs in one basket its likely that you're currently involved in multiple games. This is where it starts to get complicated...bare with me. If you are dealing with several different players you have to be strategic about the way in which you cover your tracks. I assume that the majority of people who are reading this blog right now are fairly tech savvy...by that I mean I assume that the majority of girls who are reading this blog right now know how to stalk their love interests sufficiently.

So, you know how to check recent activity on Instagram, you know what "best friends" means in reference to Snap Chat and by now you've probably already realised that the new top friends format on Facebook is complied from a mix of your relatives, best friends and the guy you stalk the most.

Fuck.

This is where people most commonly guys fall behind in the game. They are unable to effectively cover their tracks when playing with multiple partners. Without going too far into this...if your boyfriend's best friend on Snap Chat is titzout4daboyz and thats not you chances are its the same girl with a private profile who's liking all his pictures on Facey. Before you say that this is a gross generalisation and that it could just be some unbalanced female constantly sending photos of her cat to your man remember that in the world of Snap Chat it takes two to tango (one can only receive best friend status if the other reciprocates).

So ladies but mostly gentlemen out there here is a lesson for you in love games...do not underestimate your component especially if she is a female. Make sure that every move you make is swiftly executed and cover your tracks by making social media decoys.

Or you can just stop being socially slutty, delete your apps and send your loved one a letter before you risk making new best friends with a user called "yourhand01"

;)

Dream Come True - Monday's Cancelled!

Just as I was about to get up and thrust myself into another day of university look what popped into my inbox...

Can anyone say winning? WINNING!

Isn't this everyone's dream to have their Monday cancelled? Well its definitely mine. Off with the boots, on with the kettle and helloooo lovers...lets kick off the week with a new blog post!

Hey Mum

Mum arrived mid last week and she couldn't have come at a better time. Not only has the weather been perfect here in Sydney but I was in serious need of a bit of motherly love. Most of her stay we spent between Surry Hills and the Eastern Suburbs. I took her to my favourite cafes and she filled me in on all the Noosa goss. We kicked of the weekend with some tea and coffee at The strikingly beautiful and ornate French House on Danks Street. The atmosphere is always amazing here and mum couldn't get enough of the group of dashing French business men sitting behind us. Welcome to the city mumma.

This is where we stayed - The Swiss Grand Resort & Spa Bondi Beach! Even though from the picture below it could have been mistaken for a hotel called "Pacific" "The Penthouses" or "Lighthouses Pacific". Hmm well thats misguiding...

This "Pacific" charade continued into the lobby with massive banners everywhere but it didn't phase us, after we checked in we were officially on holiday! Woo Hoo

The view from our room on the top floor was breath taking, just in time to see the sunset over beautiful Bondi Beach!

We decided to explore the building which I must admit was very outdated in style and when we ventured outside there was a great party set up with no one to be seen.

Below is just a photo of me getting amongst it...you know how it is.

But we weren't completely alone...

Surely there would be a few people lazing around by the pool. If only we could get to it through this tiny peep hole...

Pretty much everything at this hotel was blocked off or hidden away behind tall white walls but it didn't stop mum who was determined to get her moneys worth.

And she got her moneys worth alright...the woman found the front door to the penthouse, the only room that had already been completely renovated and refurnished.

After we were escorted back to our room by security (only joking) I found this leaflet on the very far corner of the bed. Things just weren't fitting together so I did what I always do when I don't know what to do and called Bill. Bill being a kind of Bondi veteran informed me that in merely a couple of week the Grand Swiss Hotel would be demolished and replaced by swanky, over priced apartments and renamed Pacific Bondi Beach. Duh.

Initially I was kind of sad that this landmark building was not only going to be revamped but completely demolished, after all these semi-hideous balustrades had become part of Bondi's iconic landscape. After much consideration I decided to feel privileged instead of sad, after all I could be one of the last people to stay in this original building and experience such an amazing sunset from this particular spot.

Adjacent to our hotel is a great little chain restaurant called Misschu, I'm a regular here but this was mums first time. We ordered a delicious selection of steamed dumplings, fish of the day on a bed of red rice and quinoa, my favourite the spicy chilli chicken and a couple of glasses of red to wash it all down.

After an amazing (and cheap) dinner we decided to call it a night before thing got too blurry...

The next thing I know I was in my super comfy robe listening to the calming sounds of the sea and ordering room service for dessert...naughty ;)

We woke up the next morning at 5:50am to a spectacular sunrise...

If you ever get the chance to stay in Bondi you have to witness at least one sunrise. I know it may sound a tad ruthless and slightly insane getting up at around 5:30am but boy oh boy is it worth it, it gives you a fresh perspective on what it means to be apart of a brand new day.

I took mum on my beloved Bondi to Coogee Costal walk and back...and finally she got to experience what all the hype was about!

A quick stop by Bondi Icebergs...

And a quick trip to the Bondi Farmers Markets...

We couldn't go to the Bondi Beach markets (every Saturday for fresh produce and yummy healthy treats and every Sunday for your usual nicknacks) without stopping by the Spring Wellness stall. The bliss balls here are insanely delicious and 100% natural!

On the way back to Surry Hills we stopped by my favourite healthy food store 'About Life' on Oxford Street - Bondi Junction for my latest addiction...vegan avo, cacao and chia chocolate mousses.

But mum couldn't help herself once we arrived at Bourke Street...

She was by far the happiest person in Surry Hills as soon as she got her hands on that little buttery rhubarb tart (check out the couple sitting by the window, ha!)

Now thats a real treat!

I loved staying in Bondi but I was excited to get mum back to my little part of the world. We people watched from Kawa, ate Messina in the park and wondered up and down Bourke Street until our feet felt like they were about to fall off.

Mum being down was a fabulous escape from reality and I enjoyed every moment with her, looks like its my turn next to travel up to Noosa next...oh what a terrible life I lead ;)
